Hello from PHENND! As summer winds down and a new school year begins, we're ready to kick off another year of Senior Projects. Following the two AmeriCorps*VISTAs Brad and Robyn, my name is Jackie and I will be serving this academic year 2009-2010! I'm looking forward to the year and really building upon the previous years and maintaining the projects at schools around Philadelphia.
I am originally from San Diego, California and I graduated from San Diego State University in May 2008. I joined the AmeriCorps program, City Year, and proudly served for a year at City Year Greater Philadelphia leading and managing a team at a local high school. Many students would ask me, "Miiiss, why would you move to Philadelphia from California?!" I still get asked that question (and probably will for as long as I live here), but my answer to the students and anyone who asks me is that I love working with youth and value the importance of education. The City of Philadelphia hosts such an array of arts, culture, and history and it's exciting to experience true city living.
